Finally, Friday…

Couldn’t have come a moment sooner.  A cold was passed around between the kids this week, and it hit me Wednesday.  Drained me pretty bad but I have the Great Cow Harbor 10k in Northport early Saturday (Brandon is in the Kids Run) so time to suck it up.  This train ride would be tolerable if this guy across from me wasn’t telling his life story in this high-pitched giddy voice.  Luckily he’s getting off the train at Huntington 🙂

Ok, enough of the uncharacteristic grumpiness on a Friday.  I mean, time to enjoy the repeating short break before we do it all again on Monday (Oops, that sounded grumpy again).  This late September weekend has a lot to offer adults, families and the little ones.  Beginning late morning today is the Greek Festival in Greenlawn that stretches across the weekend; not as grand as the annual Greek Festival in Port Jefferson but it’ll do.  Also, if you’ve been following this blog we recently wrote about our festival fun out east, so you can head out to Greenport for their annual Fall fun tonight through Sunday evening; Live music, local brew, seafood, Oyster shucking contest, kid’s games and a great indoor carousel by the harbor.  Oh, and lots of ice cream and cotton candy!

You can also challenge yourself with the Great Cow Harbor 10k race out in Northport.  Registration closed Wednesday, so maybe you already planned to run?  It’s a killer, I’ve heard.  Widow Hill and several other torturous climbs.  5500 runners and about 25,000 come just to watch and cheer; it’s one of Long Island’s top routes (Sunken Meadow is another – Cardiac Hill?!?!?).

If you want to get outside for a nice walk but also support a very important cause there are some choices on Sunday.  At Jones Beach is the Long Island Heart Walk, at Eisenhower Park is the Walk to Defeat ALS (1Quest2theNext will be there!).  Perhaps you can join a team to walk, it’s not too late…

Sunday afternoon sounds the most intriguing to us; P.S.I. – Pond Scene Investigation at Caleb Smith State Park Preserve.  Fish are disappearing, who is the bad guy/girl?  hmm…..

Whatever you decide, we hope you have a fantastic adventure-filled time.  Come back Monday and leave a comment about your own quests this weekend…

Here’s our Events Calendar:

And don’t forget about the pickles!!!  (Now I know you’ll check the calendar)

even cloudy days at 'the point' are fun!

  1. I forgot about the Entenmann’s Half – I should consider it. I don’t know why but I decided I didn’t feel like running Cow Harbor even though I planned it. Ran it last year- if you have run steep hills before, like the kind in Dix Hills, you won’t find the race too difficult…
